Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment, first published in 1866, is a timeless tale of mental anguish, moral dilemma and murder that is still taught in literature programs at many colleges.
Cultural Context
Amazing Reads Publishers wanted to appeal to a new generation of readers with a modern rendition of the cover.
The bold and striking cover design alludes to the story’s setting in communist Russia. The color red symbolizes the blood on the protagonist’s hands, while the hammer and axe hint at the plot of the book. The publisher applauded Mumbai for achieving a truly contemporary design for the 148 year old classic.
