‘I Take This Train Too’ is a humour book, comically profiling the characters one encounters in the Mumbai local trains. But how does one illustrate the travellers of the most populous public transport system in the world? Colours were used to reflect personalities, such as the dull gray of the Sleepwalker, or the royal blue of the Elitist. Thus every character had their individual identity. An informal style was adopted to make it an everyman’s book. The illustrations had to complement the wit in the writing, adding a layer of humour. Proving that illustration can be a funny business.
