Donate for my home
Brief
The Delhi Bird Society wanted to bring the house sparrow back from the brink and make it a part of the city’s landscape again.
Solution
The chirruping bird house: an interactive donation box was placed on tree trunks in controlled environments to prevent pilfering – outside cafes in Delhi’s jogging parks, cultural centres, educational institutions and golfing greens. Named Chiriya Ghar [chiriya is what the sparrow is fondly called in hindi, the local vernacular, while ghar stands for home], it was inscribed with a simple message – Donate for My Home. The initiative was further promoted on twitter via tweets by noted and eminent personalities.
Results
Funds generated by the Chirya Ghar collection boxes were used to put up 148 nesting bird houses in bio-diversity parks and urban forests. In addition, 9 of the city’s leading schools have committed to the cause, long term.
