| Brief | In the world’s largest democracy many have stopped believing in voting. In 2014, a landmark election year, Google, India’s preferred destination for online conversations, wanted to get people talking about the elections and restore their faith in democracy. With 33% of eligible voters being online, but only 4 out of 10 considering voting, we needed to do something on the web to get people to vote. | |||

| Solution | Our solution was simple – don’t preach, but inspire. We created a web film that told the heartwarming true story of Shyam Saran Negi, the first person to vote in Independent India. A 97-year-old retired schoolteacher, he has proudly voted in every election since 1951. The film encouraged people to #pledgetovote and visit google.co.in/elections, Google’s election information hub. | |||
